3 McLean Neighbors On List of the Wealthiest Americans

Need a net worth of more than $1 billion.

Three McLean neighbors were among the 400 wealthiest men and women in the U.S. named Thursday by Forbes Magazine as the Forbes 400.

The price of admission to the Forbes 400: a net worth above $1 billion. Here are the neighbors by their ranking and net worth:

20. Forrest Mars, $13.8 billion. Yes this is Mars Inc., the candy company that is headquartered on Elm Street in downtown McLean. Their address is a bland office building with a locked door.

Forbes listed Big Horn, Wyo., as the address for Forrest Mars, but he also has a McLean address.

139. William Conway, $2.7 billion. Co-founder and managing director of The Carlyle Group. Yes that Carlyle Group. One of the largest private equity firms in the world. Leveraged buyouts.

331. Steve Case, $1.3 billion. An AOL founder.

New York City had the largest number of the megarich, according to The New York Times. In the five boroughs, 53 people made the list. The next closest city was Dallas, with 17, the Times said.

"Only California had more megawealthy types, 88," the Times reported.

It's hard for me to even to think in numbers that high, but it's inspiring to see people who have made it and are living the American Dream!

Wow, Heather, what planet do you live on? If you consider living the American Dream to be ripping off the taxpayers (Carlyle Group) as seen on 60 Minutes or ripping off Time Warner (AOL Merger) creating the biggest corporate losses in history (up to that point), you may want to rethink your priorities. Virtually no one accumulates 10s of billions of dollars in one lifetime honestly. Mars is the exception, but theirs is a family fortune of multiple generations.
