Allen Has Small Fundraising Lead in McLean

Democratic candidate Tim Kaine raised about $17,000 less than Republican George Allen in the most recent filing period.

 

The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents.

During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org.

Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data.

In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians.

Allen narrowly outraised Kaine in McLean ZIP codes during the filing period. Residents donated $278,402 to Allen’s campaign and $261,066 to Kaine’s.

Allen’s camp raised a total of $159,212 in the 22101 ZIP code. Residents in the 22102 and 22106 ZIP codes gave $118,190 and $1,000, respectively.

Kaine also raised the most money in the 22101 ZIP code, with a total of $163,900 during the filing period. Residents in the 22102 and 22106 ZIP codes donated $96,466 and $700, respectively.

The above data does not include donations from PACs, non-Virginia residents or small donors.

Given McLean has long been a bastion of republican voters - you would think Allen would be faring better. May be indicative of election outcome.
