Ask the Supervisor: Submit Your Questions to John Foust
Do you have a question you've always been dying to ask? We'll get it answered for you.
You may not have time to attend the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meetings. You may not even know where Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust's office is located in McLean.
But that doesn't mean you're not naturally inquisitive. Do you have a question about Tysons Corner development? The express lanes? What about property taxes in Fairfax County? Is the Silver Line ever going to reach Dulles International Airport? Do you want a traffic light installed at a busy intersection?
Here's your chance to ask. Supervisor Foust, whose district includes McLean, Great Falls, and parts of Vienna, Falls Church and Herndon, will answer questions submitted by our readers once a week. But before he can start, we need your questions.
Just write your question below in the comments section or email one directly to lauren.sausser@patch.com. Patch will submit questions to Supervisor Foust at the editor's discretion based on submissions from readers. We will feature an answer from the supervisor to one question per week.

You were the only Supervisor to vote against suing the EPA which is forcing Fairfax County to spend $200,000,000 because the EPA believes there aren't enough worms in Accotink Creek. You voted against suing the EPA because you said you don't like Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's past lawsuits and his name would be on the complaint. Why does it matter what Ken Cuccinelli did in the past if this lawsuit is in the best interests of the taxpayers?

I hope Mr. Foust will respond to this question, his constituents deserve to know if he has a substantive justification for his dissenting vote. And if he doesn’t there is real cause for alarm, the community must demand that the Supervisors that represent us vote based on the merits of the issues that come before the board. There is no room in our county leadership for vendettas or blacklists, these are tools of corruption that are often justified in the name of “the greater good”.

I am wondering who makes decisions re: landscaping in McLean? Most recently, the section in front of The Madison Building was replanted with an array of non-native plants, which is a missed opportunity on many counts. Native plants require less water and are naturally pest-resistant, so they require little to no maintenance (which means money saved on labor and chemicals.) They also offer nutritious food for birds and our imperiled pollinators, upon which one third of our food supply depends. Planners detail every bench, shelter, and trash can, but who is responsible for plant selection?

No Toll Increase

Supervisor Foust, MWAA estimates about 35,000 trips/day will be forced off the Dulles Toll Rd by their scheduled toll increases by Jan 2015. A large number of those cars will take Rt. 7 and Rt 193 (Georgetown Pike) straight through the middle of your district. What are you doing to stop this Tollmageddon? John, We spent a number of years developing the Fairfax County TOD policy. The policy sets F.A.R. (floor area ratio) limits on development in concentric rings around the Tyson's Metro platforms. The Commons development proposal at the McLean stop are being allowed to use the escalator 100 yards away from the platform as the center of their ring. Which effectively puts their project within the 1/4 mile ring and therefore unlimited FAR. Will you oppose this ?

Good luck getting your question answered. As you can see, this column was published on October 22, 2012 and since then Supervisor Foust has managed to answer the following number of questions: 0. He has managed to answer no questions despite the fact that the original column had only 5 questions and of those only two were serious questions. This column should be titled "Ask the Supervisor But Don't Expect Any Answers."
