McLean Man Writes Thriller On Oil Industry
'Viking Sands' dives into race for oil and imagined confrontation between Iraq and Iran.
One of the more recent books to hit the shelves about modern oil issues is by one of McLean's own neighbors.
Thomas Torrens, who lives in McLean and Casco, Maine, recently published 'Viking Sands," a thriller that follows NASA Scientist Albert Stern as he "stumbles upon an exotic biochemical weapon with an insatiable appetite for crude oil."
"Thus begins a saga that culminates in nuclear chaos in the Middle East," reads the description for the book.
Torrens is no stranger to the international petroleum market: He served in senior legal positions with two of the world's major oil companies for more than 15 years, and also worked for 17 years as an energy legal advisor for an international financial institution, according to his bio.
