McLean Woman Killed in Kirby Road Accident

Beverly Sargent, 81, was struck in her driveway Tuesday

An 81-year-old McLean woman was killed Tuesday after a car struck her while she was on her way to a local service station. 

Beverly Sargent, 81, was pronounced dead shorly after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Fairfax County Police responded at 11 a.m. Tuesday to the 1800 block of Kirby Road for the report of a crash. According to a police investigation, Sargent was in her driveway getting ready to head to a local service station. She asked another driver, an 86-year-old man, to follow and bring her home. When she walked back to the other car, a 2002 Camry, to make it was ready behind her, the driver put the Camry in gear, started to roll forward and was not able to stop before striking Sargent.

Speed and alcohol are not factors in this crash, police said.
