The last week of summer vacation for most students in Northern Virginia should be fairly pleasant weatherwise, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Although Mother Nature threatens to bring a little rain and possible thunderstorms early in the week — there's a 20 percent chance Monday and a 30 percent chance Tuesday — the rest of the week looks good. Highs Monday and Tuesday are expected to be in the upper 80s.

The best weather day this week appears to be Wednesday, with sunny skies and highs in the low 80s, according to the NWS.

The weather service predicts sunny to partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the mid-80s Thursday through Saturday.

The Weather Channel gives Northern Virginia a 10- to 20-percent chance of rain Wednesday through Friday, increasing to a 30-percent chance for isolated thunderstorms Saturday.

For the rest of Labor Day weekend, the Weather Channel predicts mostly sunny skies with a high of 89 degrees Sunday and 86 on Monday, a federal holiday.

It does not look as if Northern Virginia will feel the effects of Tropical Storm Isaac, which was expected to become a Category 2 hurricane by Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Its path, according to the weather service, will take the storm up through Mississippi and Alabama by Thursday and continue up between eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee by Friday.
