UPDATE: Man Who Fell at Tysons Corner Mall Expected to Live
Fairfax police investigating incident as an attempted suicide.
Friday Morning Update: The 20 year-old Arlington County man who fell from the fourth floor of a Tysons Corner Mall parking garage is expected to live, Fairfax County police said Friday morning.
The case is still being investigated as a suicide attempt therefore police are not releasing the victim's name.
The incident occurred about 5 pm. Thursday afternoon at Tyson's Corner one mall on Chain Bridge Road. He fell from the parking garage located across the street from the Chipotle restaurant.
Marjorie Veiga said when she and her daughter were entering the mall around 4:50 p.m. Thursday, she saw a young man on the parking deck rooftop, talking loudly on his cellphone.
"[He] seemed to be very angry at whomever he was calling," she said.
A few hours later, they returned to find police still on scene.
UPDATE 8:30 p.m. Thursday: A man fell from the fourth floor of a Tysons Corner Mall parking garage about 5p.m. today in an incident Fairfax County police said they are investigating as an attempted suicide.
A spokesperson for the police said the adult male was transported alive to a hospital. A spokesman for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said the man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
The man's condition could not be determined at this time.
He landed nearly in front of the Chipotle restaurant, sources at the mall said. The parking garage where the incident took place is within walking distance of the mall's food court on the third level.
The incident took place near the pedestrian walkway where a grandmother threw her two-year-old granddaughter to the ground below in November 2010, sources said. Carmela dela Rosa was convicted of first degree murder.
ORIGINAL STORY: Fairfax County police are investigating how a person fell 25 feet from a Tysons Corner building Thursday evening in what appears to be a suicide attempt near the Tysons Corner mall.
Fairfax County police and EMS responded around 5:10 p.m. Thursday to 1961 Chain Bridge Road. Police spokesman Bud Walker could not confirm what existed at the address, or where exactly at the location the fall took place. Several stores in and around Tysons Corner Center share that address.
The victim, who was found unconscious by rescue personnel, was taken to a local hospital by Fairfax County EMS shortly after they arrived on scene. It is not clear how old the victim was, or, whether they are a man or woman.
It's unclear if the victim's injuries are life threatening.

I was in the garage but didn't see him actually jump. I did see the body before the fire truck arrived. The police shooed everyone away and didn't seem to bother to ask any questions of bystanders, but perhaps the witnesses who called it in were already talking. One man I talked to said he saw the man run toward the edge and jump off.

The Fairfax police released extremely limited information about this incident In the beginning. The updated story contains more information. Police have not released the age of the victim. We will continue to follow this story.
