Dads, and moms, are our first and last teachers.
During today's celebration of fathers, please share in comments what is your most memorable lesson from dad so we can learn from your dad's wisdom.
These are the lessons that to a large extent crafted us into the adults we have become.

Our father taught us: You ARE Somebody. Don't ever let anyone out work you.
We miss you Daddy.

My father was an alcoholic. He taught me not to drink and drive, by example.

My father taught me that hard work pays off. He ran his own business and worked seven days a week. Whether bad or good, I grew up with the same work ethic.

You're right that it can be a good and bad thing to have a strong work ethic -- my husband's cousin learned the same lesson from her father and she has not taken a vacation in at least ten years. Every time she tries to plan one, an emergency only she can deal with comes up in her law firm. She owns a beach house she has never spent more than two days at a time in.
On the other hand, too many people believe they are owed a living beyond their means even if they are not prepared to work the hours necessary. At least you know you are doing everything you can to secure your future.... no matter what happens with Social Security.

There’s a time and season for every thing. Including moments when easy-going is the best course of action. That’s one lesson I think about when things get intense.
