State Police, County Helicopter Pursue Fugitive in McLean

Man was not found after eluding police in a vehicle chase Wednesday.

State police failed to apprehend an unknown male subject who fled a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon, losing the suspect after a vehicle, helicopter and K9 pursuit.

An officer attempted to stop the man, driving a Toyota SUV, around 1:33 p.m. for  "speeding in the northbound I-495 Express Lanes at Route 7," Virginia State Police said Wednesday in a statement.

"The SUV refused to stop and a pursuit ensued," the statement continued. "The vehicle exited to the Dulles Toll Road going west and then took the exit to Spring Hill Road, where the driver lost control. The SUV went over the median and struck a tree. The driver then fled the crashed SUV on foot."

A spokesman for Fairfax County Police confirmed the county assisted state police with a helicopter and K9 officers.

Investigators have determined the Toyota SUV was reported stolen from Anne Arundel, Md.

State police called off the search at 4:30 p.m., but residents in the area told McLean Patch helicopter traffic was heard through the evening.

The subject was described as a man wearing a baggy jacket. State police ask anyone with information about the subject to call the Fairfax Division, 703-803-0027.
