If you're hearing train noises between the East and West Falls Church Stations in the wee hours of the morning, here's why.
The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project is testing trains on the existing Metro rails between the stations, between from 10 p.m.-6 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights, for the next two weeks.
This activity involves running trains at various speeds and safe breaking distances to test changes that were made to the existing Orange Line tracks to tie-in the Silver Line now under construction. The Silver Line will eventually run from Loudoun County and Dulles Airport to downtown Washington.
That tie-in will allow passengers from Dulles airport, Reston, McLean and Tysons Corner to ride the train straight into Rosslyn or Washington, D.C.
The testing must take place during non-revenue hours, according to Dulles Metro Rail.
