The McLean Ear: Real Housewife Departs McLean

We Hear to Tell

Alas, we regret to inform you that McLean has lost one of its celebrity neighbors.

Mary Amons who zipped from unknown McLean resident to one of the Real Housewives of D.C. has  finally sold her Langley Farms house and left with no word on a forwarding address.

Mary and husband Richard put their home on the market shortly before  the only season (mercifully) of the D.C. installment of this money-minting "reality" TV franchise that premiered in September 2010.

The house sold for $1.6 million and settled on Feb. 13. Neighbors report the Amons have not purchased another home.

The initial asking sale price of the two-story home was $2.3 million. Last year they lowered the price to $1.7 million. Ah, the limits of fame. The 5-bedroom home is assessed for $1.4 million.

Built in 1939 with an addition in 1989, the home includes five bedrooms. Three fireplaces.  Four bathrooms. More than 5,000 square feet of space not counting the full basement and a detached garage. No swimming pool and no tennis courts, according to Fairfax County land records

The house, in one of McLean’s toniest neighborhoods, comes with neighbors who include former Vice President Dick Cheney,  Channel 7 weatherman Bob Ryan and  Alan J. Dabbiere, a McLean resident and Atlanta businessman, who owns the historic Hickory Hill and is totalling renovating it.

Amons was one of five "real housewives" of D.C. Viewers quickly learned that two of them lived in Virginia, Amons and Michaele Salahi. None was a housewife.

Another "real housewife" Lynda Erkiletian, who left Georgetown, for the greenery of McLean remains in her home just off of Dolley Madison Blvd.

Amons was always in the nice one on the Bravo TV show. There was others who were not so nice. Michaele Salahi and Catherine Ommanney know who they are.

We're checking to see who our new neighbors are. We'll get back to you on that.
