Over 600 guest gathered last night at the Hilton Hotel in Tysons Corner to recognize the top youth and High School football players in Northern Virginia. Carter Govan, of McLean was one of 20 players selected out of 6,000 players in the NOVA region.
Carter, who is a multi-sport athlete, has played youth football for the Mclean Mustangs for the past three years. He has been an impact player on both offense and defense.

On defense, Carter played strong side linebacker and was one of the leading tacklers on his teams the past three years. On offense, Carter was one of the leading quarterbacks in the league. With his speed he has averaged over 500 yards rushing all three seasons. Carter also averaged over 600 yards passing per season. In the final playoff game this season against South County, Carter completed 11 passes for over 150 yards.
Carter is an honor student at Longfellow Middle School. He will join his brother Harrison Govan at Mclean High School next year. Harrison is a sophomore at Mclean and is also a standout football player. Harrison was recognized this past fall as the MVP of Mclean’s Junior Varsity football Team for 2013.

Carter was in good company last night at the awards banquet. He was joined by Caleb Henderson, the #1 High School QB in Virginia, who will play for North Carolina next year. Mike Glennon, QB for Tampa Bay Buccuneers, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Glennon played youth football in our local league just a few years ago.
