In this artistic and comic musical for all ages, Pippi Longstocking comes to life as a high spirited, warm hearted incarnation of every child’s dream of freedom and power. CFTC hopes you will join us for this whimsical journey - starring pirates, circus entertainers, a few cops and robbers, and the world's most popular whippersnapper!

Matt Lanoe-Chapman will direct Pippi Longstocking: The Family Musical, which has rich roles for boys, girls, women and men. A full list of characters with descriptions can be found at www.cftc.info.

CFTC Creative Director Kirsten Boyd, who is musical director for Pippi Longstocking, said, “We were looking for a show that had roles for adults and children. After reading the script for Pippi, we were excited about the possibilities of a circus and pirates. The circus will give us the opportunity to do some really creative elements that will carry through the entire show. We’re also hoping to partner with some real live circus performers!”

CFTC Board Chairperson Sharon Petersen said the theatre company offers the City of Fairfax and the surrounding communities more opportunities for high quality, multi-generational theatre. “One of the fondest memories my family will carry is the summer we all auditioned for the musical as a character building exercise, but then all ended up getting parts,” Petersen said. “It was so much bonding fun, like a family game night extended over weeks.  It got the kids’ and grownups’ faces out of screens and onto the stage with so many members of the community on both sides of the curtain.  CFTC provided a safe (mosquito and sun-burn free!) and fun space for kids, teens, and new and old adults to build something together with quality directors. The glow lasts long after the show closes.”

Boyd said she is very excited about working with the artistic team for Pippi Longstocking: The Musical.  “Matt Lanoue-Chapman is an experienced director and has already brought a pirate-ship full of creative ideas,” she said. “Our choreographer Erik Sampson is a professional modern ballet dancer, so his creative moment expertise will really help us pull off the circus. The music for the show is fun, and in a great range for most ages and voice types in this style of singing.”

Auditions for Pippi Longstocking: The Musical will be held on Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Callbacks are scheduled for Thursday, May 22 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. All auditions will be held at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Those auditioning (ages 13-adult) should prepare 16 bars of a musical theatre song (no pop, classical, or songs from the show) and a memorized monologue. All music should be clearly marked in a binder for the provided accompanist.

Children ages 12 and under should be prepared to sing “Happy Birthday” or a verse of “Amazing Grace” with the provided accompanist and to do a cold reading from the script. Children auditioning may choose to follow the audition requirements for those 13 and older, but it is not required or expected of them.
