Jill's House Chosen from Over 300 Applicants to Receive Award to Serve Military Families

Jill's House, a Vienna, VA based nonprofit that provides full-service overnight respite programs for children with special needs, was chosen as one of eight nonprofits to receive a Newman's Own Award in the amount of $10,000 for their innovative programs that improve military quality of life. Newman’s Own, Fisher House Foundation, and Military Times part of Gannett Government Media Corporation, sponsor the competition, which donated $100,000 this year alone and seeks to reward ingenuity for programs that benefit service men and women and their families. The competition began in 1999 has recognized 153 programs with awards totaling $925,000, with all funding provided by Newman’s Own, Inc.


Jill's House provides full-service, short-term overnight care for children with intellectual disabilities (ID) and their siblings in a safe, fun environment while giving their families a much-needed break from the constant demand of caring for a child with ID. Jill's House is open to all children with ID and their siblings between the ages of six and 17 without regard to race, religion, or ethnicity. Since 2010, Jill’s House has provided over 250,000 hours of rest and relief to approximately 400 families. Receiving no direct state or federal funding, Jill’s House was created and is maintained through individual donations and grants. Jill's House's main facility is located in Vienna, VA, and the organization offers programs throughout parts of the nation.
