Fairfax Democrats to Hold 'Blue Jeans Ball' to Celebrate McAuliffe Inauguration

Fairfax County Democrats will hold a casual gathering next month to celebrate the inauguration of Terry McAuliffe as governor of Virginia. 

McAuliffe won the governor's race Nov. 6 with 48 percent of the vote, besting Republican Ken Cuccinelli's 45.5 percent. Libertarian Robert Sarvis took 6.6 percent of the vote.

The fundraising gala for McAuliffe is dubbed the Blue Jeans Inaugural Ball. It's scheduled for 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center, 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale.

Attendees are encouraged to incorporate denim into their attire, according to Fairfax County Democrats:

"Guests are welcome to wear any of the following: Blue jeans with a fancy top (such as tuxedo shirt and jacket), fancy attire that incorporates denim anywhere, a "denim and diamonds" theme, or simply dress up in full ballroom attire."

Individual tickets are $75 and include admission plus two drinks. The gala features food, drink, live music and "special guests."
