Why Go: The Udvar-Hazy Center, which, believe us, is cool for kids AND adults, throws their seventh annual Become a Pilot Day on Saturday. You and the kids can explore an outdoor aircraft display, talk to pilots, test your piloting skills in flight simulators, and participate in story time and hands-on activities. This year, in celebration of the U.S. Navy’s centennial, the U.S. Naval drill team U.S. Navy band, The Commodores, will perform.

Where/When: Claude Moore Colonial Farm, 6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean; Sunday, June 19, 1 pm–4 pm
Why Go: Planted in early fall last year, the wheat and rye are finally ready for harvest at the Claude Moore Farm—and your kids can help! Farmers will show them how to cut and bind crops, churn butter, and bake wheat bread. This event is weather permitting, so call ahead.

Why Go: Sponsored by the Music Friends of the Fairfax County Public Library and the Alden Theatre, this concert showcases the talents of local school-age musicians who are destined for greatness in the world of classical music.
