Alliance for Liberty: Military Encampment Weekend

Where/When: Mount Vernon Estate, Museum & Gardens, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon; Sept. 10 and 11, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: Two hundred and thirty years ago, Gen. George Washington and French Gen. Rochambeau hatched a plan at Mount Vernon that led to the British surrender of the Revolutionary War. In commemoration of this anniversary, Mount Vernon will come alive with hundreds of war re-enactors, including Gen. Washington himself. Kids and adults can wander the military camp, meeting soldiers and watching military demonstrations throughout the day.

Pricing: $15 adult, $7 children 6-11, free for children 5 and under

Ages: All ages, but best for ages 6 and over

Teddy Bear Band

Where/When: McLean Central Park, Route 123 and Old Dominion Drive, McLean; parking at Dolley Madison Library; Wednesday, Sept. 14, 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Jammin’ Juniors Concert series returns from its summer hiatus with the Teddy Bear Band — a children’s music band that, refreshingly, does not dress up in costumes. The Teddy Bear Band’s aim is for children to maintain a positive sense of self through music and fun, while delivering plenty of "adult friendly" audience participation opportunities.

Pricing: Free!

Ages: Ages 2-5
