This Week: Many Lively Events, Both Indoors and Out

Glad you clicked on our Grab & Go Kids Planner! We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Riverside Camping

Where/When: Riverbend Park, 8700 Potomac Hills Street, Great Falls; 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Why Go: This overnight trip is perfect for families who want to get closer to nature, or just closer to each other.  You and the kids can enjoy a blazing campfire and an evening hike at Riverbend Park. Bring your camping gear, toasting sticks and a dinner to cook over the campfire; S’mores and a light breakfast will be provided.  Registration is required in advance.

Pricing: The cost is $12 per person. Children age three and under are free

Where/When:  McLean High School, 1633 Davidson Road, McLean; Friday, May 13, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go:  The McLean High School Madrigals and Men and Women’s Choruses will draw from the classic Celtic songbook for this spring performance. A variety of savory and sweet delicacies will be served. The concert benefits the scholarship fund for choral students.

Pricing: $12 for adults and students.

Ages: All welcome.

Pushcart Players presents - Peter and the Wolf

Where/When:  Alden Theatre, 1234 Ingleside Avenue, McLean; Saturday, May 14, 2:00 p.m.

Why Go:  The Pushcart Players—an award-winning professional theatre and arts-in-education company—delivers a lively musical adaptation of the classic folktale to young audiences.

Pricing: $12/$8 McLean district residents.

Ages: Ages 5 and above.

McLean Orchestra Presents Puppet Strings

Where/When: Oakcrest School, 850 Balls Hill Road, 
McLean; Saturday, May 14, 8:00 p.m.

Why Go: The McLean Orchestra’s season will end on a high note with Stravinsky’s ballet about the lovelorn puppet, Petrouchka. Supertitles will enhance this tragic but beautiful story of unrequited love.

Pricing: Adults $30, Seniors $25, Youth (16 & under, students w/ID) $15.

Ages: Best for Middle and High School students.
