Yesterday, we saw the season’s first holiday commercial. It was advertising those delicious, buttery, highly addictive crescent rolls.

That got us thinking about our Thanksgiving menu…and Christmas cookies. Of course, we were enjoying some leftover Halloween candy during this brainstorm.

It seems like as good of a time as any to highlight some fitness options in and around McLean. We know getting to the gym during this time of year can be a Sisyphean task, but we have collected the best, most refreshing options for getting your sweat on during this crazy season.

The Pilates Room

1489 Chain Bridge Road, Suite 100-102, McLean

703-749-1661

The options at McLean’s Pilates Room are more varied then its name suggests. Yes, they have group Pilates apparatus classes; they also offer solo and duet training, yoga for adults and kids, spinning, and massage therapy.

Their approach to health and beauty is holistic, so clients can also schedule customized skincare services by their Parisian-trained esthetician. New for the fall, first time clients receive a 20 percent discount on all scheduled skin services.

As a client recently told the Washington Post, "Everybody leaves here with a smile."

Pengu Studio

571-723-6200

Pengu Studio boasts that their Pilates classes can deliver improved flexibility, posture, strength, and mind-body connection. Within their bright, naturally-lit studio, you can believe them.

You’re in trusted hands at Pengu; the President and Master Pilates trainer Sommer has over 10,000 teaching hours, while master yoga teacher Marcy has over 11 years of experience.

Private and group yoga and Pilates classes are available, including the highly athletic vigorous flow yoga class, which blends cardio and muscle work seamlessly. Buy classes in packs for more value.

Elm Street Fitness

A wonderful antidote to the over crowded and over stimulated mass market gyms in the area, Elm Street Fitness provides personal and small group training for all ages and abilities in a calming, intimate space.

Group classes include yoga, spinning, Pilates, senior fitness, pre and post-natal fitness and post rehabilitation.

Personal fitness training is the specialty here. The personal trainers, who are recognized in the WASHINGTONIAN Magazine as “ Trainers We Like,” all have nationally recognized certifications; many have over 10 years of personal training experience.

DivaFit

Multiple Northern Virginia locations

Falls Church Studio: 703-864-1109

At DivaFit, your clothes stay on, but your inner minx comes out.

What was supposed to be a part-time business for owner Lisa Peklo has now turned into a local phenomenon—pole and chair dancing fitness classes that tone muscles as well as bring the sexy back.

Today DivaFit has 30 instructors, 4 studios, and 9 levels of pole classes, tailored for beginners and experts, Moms and Grandmas, homemakers and executives. Studios are located in Ashburn, Herndon, Chantilly and Falls Church.

Your biceps (and husband) will love you for this.
