McLean Rotary Celebrates New Officers

Members honor new leaders and a great year

An artist who formerly lived in Dubai was installed as president of McLean Rotary last week.

Cherry Baumbusch was one of the only female American Rotarians serving in Dubai. She was born in Northern Virginia.

Other officers installed at a gala dinner included: President Elect Jan Auerbach, a retired federal government employee, who along with her husband, Irv, is one of the best known community leaders in McLean; Vice President Bob Rosenbaum, retired, former building materials distribution industry professional; Secretary Dale Lazar, intellectual property attorney; Sergeant-at-arms Cecilia Ford, attorney, The McCammon Group; and Richard Golden, attorney with Golden & Golden, P.C.

Baumbusch succeeds Glenn Yarborough, who was recently installed as commander of the McLean American Legion post. Yarborough listed some of the achievements Rotary had this year:  “the 250,000 meals given out for Stop Hungry Now and the .”

Baumbusch's goal for the upcoming year, “increasing membership while continuing what a fine job Rotary has done in the past.”

To help grow membership, McLean Rotary will host mixers every other Monday at Evo Bistro from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Membership chair and Rotarian for 15 years, Fred Dent, described these mixers as “getting pretty wild.” Evo Bistro on Dolley Madison Boulevard has become a popular McLean watering hole.

About 80 Rotarians and their guests gathered at the McLean Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Thursday evening to install the new officers and thank members.

The McLean Rotary Club is the local chapter of the world renowned Rotary International Organization that has “more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. These members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.” The McLean Rotary Club has 61 members and is an avid leader in community service throughout the area.
