McLean Weekend Guide to Fun

Local things to do this weekend in your neighborhood!

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 p.m., Sunday, 2 p.m. (through Saturday, Oct. 1, Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances); Alden Theatre, 1234 Ingleside Ave. McLean, VA

Why Go: For ages 16 and older. Aging parents, rebellious college kids and baby boomers facing a mid-life crisis are the basis for this hysterical adult comedy that will have you roaring. The production focuses on trendy Manhattan art gallery owners Barbara and David Kahn, whose life is upended when Barbara's eccentric mother, Sophie, is deposited on the couple's doorstep.

36th Annual Virginia Wine Festival

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 17 - Sunday, Sept. 18, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Bull Run Regional Park, 7700 Bull Run Dr. Centreville, VA

Why Go: This year’s festival celebrates vintages from over 50 of the Old Dominion’s finest vintners. In addition to great wine and food, the Virginia Wine Festival will host an eclectic combination of music. Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (ASWA) Vice President David Barber will host the four-course gourmet food and wine pairing.

Price: $25-$30 for adults; $15-$22 for designated drivers; $5-$8 for kids ages 6-12

Fall for the Book

When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 18, 12:00 p.m. (through Friday, Sept. 23, times vary); George Mason University, 4400 University Dr. Fairfax, VA

Why Go: Don't miss the 13th annual event featuring writers reading and discussing their work. Fall for the Books will be jam-packed with business, finance, cooking, poetry, history, biography, children's literature, politics and scores of fiction writers.
