MomsTalk: Spring Fever

Welcoming spring with Cherry Blossoms and McLean Day

Spring fever is in full bloom.  Many local schools are already on spring break. We’ve had our first 80-degree day and the pollen count is skyrocketing.  Moms (and dads) are celebrating the end of snow boots and parkas and looking forward to big and small events around town.

Anne Wydler, McLean resident, married with two daughters.

I look forward to celebrating spring outdoors.  Our family has gone to the Cherry Blossom Festival every year since our older daughter was born.  We try to sneak out on a school day (either during spring break or after early release) to avoid the busy weekend days and make a full “tourist” outing to enjoy the scenery around the Tidal Basin.

We are also excited about our favorite local celebration, McLean Day.  Always held in Lewinsville Park, this year’s event is May 21.  We try to entice a grandparent or two to visit for McLean Day as well as friends from Arlington, Falls Church and Middleburg.

We’ve always loved McLean Day but it’s taken an even more special meaning since our kids started dancing with Joy of Dance; this group always performs at the opening of McLean Day. We enjoy this chance to see friends, celebrate McLean, ride rides and of course, eat lots of delicious and nutritious treats.
