More Than 15,000 Without Power in Fairfax County

Outage map shows hardest hit areas are in McLean, North Arlington, Tyson's Corner, Vienna and Fairfax Station.

A line of thunderstorms moving through Northern Virginia Thursday afternoon has knocked out power to more than 15,000 homes in Fairfax County, according to Dominion Power.

Outside of the county, another 3,000 are without power Thursday, in areas surrounding Fairfax County including Arlington County.

Areas especially hard hit:
  • McLean: About 3,000
  • North Arlington: More than 900
  • Vienna: More than 1,000
  • Tyson's Corner: Nearly 2,000
  • Fairfax Station: More than 800 homes

Yes, the areas with the greatest tree canopy density lost power. Time to consider thinning/clearing out this density.

Power lines above ground in the older neighborhoods with tree branches falling on them will always be the same scenario. You can't bury the lines as it costs too much so this will always be a problem.
