National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch for Northern Virginia
Heavy wet snow could mean power outages, NWS warns.
The National Weather Service Tuesday morning issued a Winter Storm Watch across Northern Virginia, beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. and ending Thursday at 10 p.m.
The watch covers the entire region: Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford County, Spotsylvania, Loudoun County and Fredericksburg.
The NWS forecasts snow and sleet with accumulations of 5 inches or more of snow and sleet. Snow is expected to move from the south Wednesday night. Snow may mix with sleet and rain late Wednesday night and Thursday. Snow could be heavy at times Wednesday night and Thursday.
The NWS says to expect temperatures in the mid to upper 20s Wednesday night, slowly rising into the lower and middle 30s Thursday afternoon. The area could see wind gusts of up to 35 MPH.
Roads may become slippery due to snow and sleet; travel may be dangerous Wednesday night and Thursday. Heavy wet snow could lead to some power outages, the NWS warns.
