National Weather Service Warns of 'Dangerously' Low Wind Chills

The wind could make it fell like 14 below on Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for much of the greater Washington region, including McLean, saying that "dangerously cold" wind chills are expected Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The temperature on Monday is expected to drop to just below freezing by 5 p.m.

Monday night's low is forecast to be around 5 degrees, with wind chill values as low as -10, according to the National Weather Service.

McLean could also see sustained winds of up to 24 mph with gusts up to 36 mph.

Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 15, according to the forecast, though the windchill could dip to -14. The wind should taper off slightly, with sustained winds up to 21 mph and gusts up to 31 mph, according to the weather service.

A wind chill advisory means that the combination of extremely cold air and strong winds could combine to cause frostbite and hypothermia.

The weather service recommends wearing a hat and gloves if you have to go outside tonight.
