A brief but virulent line of thunderstorms moved through the area Sunday evening downing poles and power lines. One of the hardest hit areas were communities located near by McLean-Arlington County border.

Dominion Power estimated restoration times from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"My power is still out on Chesterbrook Road," a McLean neighbor wrote McLean Patch early Monday afternoon. "I had to bring my refrigerated and frozen foods to my mom's apartment at The Ashby in McLean that has power. However, I drove up North Albemarle and up Williamsburg (in Arlington) and it looks like tornado alley. I saw at least 20 trees broken with many limbs on the power lines."

At 8:30 p.m. she reported: "Just got power at 8 o'clock tonight (on the Fourth of July). Our next purchase is going to be a generator. I'm plenty tired of having to worry about spoiled food every month or so when the wind blows and the above-ground power lines are too wimpy to handle it. Dominion needs to bury the power lines. We've suffered 18 years of power outages since moving into our house in Chesterbrook Woods area. Happy Fourth!"

Dominion Power was reporting about 50 McLean homes still without power at about 6:30pm Monday but that number has now nearly doubled.

WRC-TV reported Monday night that parts of Old Dominion Drive in Arlington are closed because of storm damage.
