New Year's Eve in McLean

McLean Rings in 2011

Why spend New Year's Eve battling the D.C. crowds, when you can trip the light fantastic closer to home? McLean is staying up late Friday welcoming 2011 with special events, dining options, and parties.

If ringing in 2011 around a dinner table with delicious dishes and close friends sounds perfect, try .  The lively wine and tapas bar is having a New Year's Eve Celebration that includes a Champagne toast and dancing.

There are two seatings—the first, between 5:00-6:00 p.m., is $85 per person. The second seating, from 8:00-9:30 p.m. is $120 per person and features a luxurious five course dinner menu, with oysters, filet mignon, and lobster, just to name a few of the prix fixe choices.

Just down the road, will be serving a less extravagant but still festive three course dinner menu with Champagne toast for $55 per person. Reservations are available up until 11:00 p.m.

For a fête with an international flair, try . The kitchen will be offering featured dishes with mesmerizing descriptions, (risotto with duck, leeks ragu and champagne, anyone?), as well as their a la carte menu.

At the evening will begin with a glass of the classic Veuve Clicquot Champagne, followed by Chef Russell Skall's special New Year's menu selections. Guests have to make the unenviable choice between Filet Mignon & Crab-Stuffed Shrimp, North Atlantic Lobster Tail, or New York Strip & Giant Shrimp. For all dishes, Marian Jansen op de Haar, Fleming's Director of Wine, has selected wine pairings.

Taking the prize as the most romantic way to spend the last moments of 2010 is the New Year's Eve package. For $299, the package includes an overnight stay in a deluxe guest room, a bottle of Champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and an American Breakfast for two in Michel.



The will be serving up food and entertainment. They are merrily observing the New Year with a special 9:00 p.m. performance of "The Mousetrap," Agatha Christie's classic mystery set in the English countryside during a huge snowstorm. After the play, amidst hors d'oeuvres, wine, and champagne in the Theater's art gallery, will you even notice as the clock strikes midnight? Tickets are $50.

Peace, quietude, and reflection aren't often associated with New Year's Eve. However, the Dominican Retreat is offering a New Year's Overnight for anyone seeking spiritual renewal and prayer. Guests can sit quietly in the chapel, stroll through the woods, or enjoy conversation around the fireplace. The retreat, hidden just off Old Dominion Drive a little pass the Dolley Madison intersection is open to persons of all faiths and walks of life.

2010 had its share of antagonizing moments, which is even more reason to revel in its passing—in McLean!
