Vinson Hall Expansion on Track to be Finished by September 2014

Facility is open to commissioned military officers and their immediately families, plus State Department, CIA, FBI and other select federal employees.

The expansion of the Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean is on schedule to be complete by September 2014.

The independent living facility — which is open to commissioned military officers from all branches of service and their immediate families, along with select GS-14 and above federal employees — is adding 75 apartments. The expansion also will add a convenience store, auditorium, short-term rehabilitation facility with 12 private units and a complete rehabilitation suite.

Plans also call for a community center between Vinson Hall and the Arleigh Burke Pavilion that features a bistro, a library, a multi-purpose room and classrooms. Apartments at Arleigh Burke are open to anyone in the community, not just military.

"It's expanding the whole venue of services we offer to all of the residents," said Dave DeClark, marketing director at Vinson Hall.

Certain rehabilitation services are currently provided separately at Vinson Hall and Arleigh Burke. The expansion will allow for those services to be provided in one central location with state-of-the-art equipment that will be accessible from both facilities through an enclosed gateway.
