Subway Closed between East and West Falls Church stations During Labor Day Weekend.

Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project construction will cause disruptions of Metrorail service along the Orange Line between the East Falls Church and the West Falls Church Metro stations over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-5.

Both stations will be open. Free buses will provide shuttle services between the two stations starting at 8 p.m. Friday night, Sept. 2 through closings on Monday, Sept. 5. Nightly, the last train will depart Vienna 20 minutes earlier than usual-at 2:08 a.m.
Friday and Saturday nights and at 11:08 p.m. on Sunday.

Rail service will return to normal on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

This outage will allow rail crews to continue work at the site of the junction of the Dulles extension with the existing Orange line between the existing East and West Falls Church Stations. This connection includes a switch at each track where the Metrorail Trains will be able to cross from the new to the existing line. A double crossover track section in front of the switches is also to be installed to allow for train staging and single tracking for flexibility and maximum efficiency of the Metrorail service.

This weekend crews will be putting in the double cross-over track. During a similar interruption of services In July between these two sages crews installed the switches.

The rail project and Metro have scheduled another three-day outage is planned for Columbus Day. No additional outages are planned for rail project work this year. However, outages will be needed from time to time until the new line is completed in 2013.

Also during the weekend between Vienna and West Falls Church stations, trains will operate every 24 minutes and share one track while Metro personnel replace cross ties and insulators. Metro has scheduled other work for the weekend on its Red and Blue lines. For details, please visit: http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/news/PressReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=5030
