An Enchanted Evening to Support the McLean Orchestra

Annual Fundraiser with a Spanish Flair

Nonstop music, flamenco dancing and tapas fare create the ambiance of the McLean Orchestra’s 2011 gala, "Noche de Encanto, An Evening of Enchantment."

The McLean Orchestra is hosting its annual gala Friday, April 8, at the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner. Musical entertainment will be provided during the entire event: the McLean Youth Orchestra will play during the cocktail reception; the McLean Chamber Orchestra will accompany dinner; the Furia Flamenca will perform after dinner; and finally, the Daryl Davis Band will play as the floor opens up for dancing.

Deanna Belli, a member of the gala committee is very excited about the upcoming event. "I volunteered to work on The McLean Orchestra Gala Committee because I had so much fun at last year’s event.  This year's Gala promises to be just as fun and fabulous, and a great opportunity to support a first-class local arts organization," she said.

The chefs at the Ritz Carlton will be providing a custom-created menu of Spanish cuisine to be accompanied by wines from Spain.

There will be a silent auction featuring jewelry from Tiffany, Adeler Jewelers and Boone and Sons. There will also be a seven-night Caribbean voyage on a mega yacht valued at close to $15,000.

Wayne Sharp, president of the orchestra, share his thoughts about the gala and this season. "The gala is our major event of the year. The purpose of the gala is to support our 40th anniversary, the 2011/2012 season. It's an exciting event," he said. "Our season this past year was the 'Season of Enchantment.' So 'An Evening of Enchantment' is in keeping with our theme of this year.”

Ann Page, one on the co-chairs of the gala, and a former president of the orchestra, has been on the board for ten years and has chaired five galas. She feels fortunate to have so many businesses in McLean that continue to support the orchestra. The presenting sponsor of the event is Wachovia, in addition to significant sponsorship by the Georgelas Group and Iridium Communications.

"Every year the arts find it more difficult to secure funding, and we are thrilled with the kind of support that we get for our community orchestra," Page said.
