Auditions for Commedia Troupe

Theatrical Teens (currently in grades 8 - 11) can audition for this summer's touring production of a new original comedy, produced by Traveling Players Ensemble's Commedia Troupe (in residence at The Madeira School).

Working in an ensemble of up to 14 actors, the Commedia Troupe creates and rehearses an original play.  Rehearsals focus on improvisation, mask use, movement analysis, ensemble creation, vocal technique and collaborative storytelling, as well as study of both the historical form of Commedia and its modern descendants.  Outdoor rehearsals, rigorous exercises and weekly campouts prepare you to go on a nine-day tour, camping out, hiking, swimming and performing at a series of outdoor venues, including Douthat State Park and Colonial Williamsburg, site of the first theatre in the colonies.

Please prepare a 90-second audition piece (click for details). Come dressed in comfortable clothes. Wear contacts if you need them (if you only wear glasses, just wear those; it's not a big deal). Auditions will include improvisational games and physical work.

There is an audition fee of $35 (in advance) or $40 (at the door).  Bring a bag dinner; we'll have some snacks as well.

Traveling Players Ensemble trains teenagers in classical theatre and gives them touring opportunities. Our mission is to bring great theatre into the great outdoors, reflecting the origins of theatre when minstrels and theatre troupes roamed the countryside, relying on the barest props and the boldest imagination to convey their art.
