Activities will include:

  • A dreidel origami station, where preschool and school-aged children will have the opportunity to create their own dreidels from origami paper, while learning about the game of dreidel, and the meaning of the Hebrew letters used on each side;
  • Calendar decorating—Children will decorate their own Color-me Calendar (featuring Elmo, Ernie, and other Muppet friends from Shalom Sesame ©2011 Sesame Workshop. All Rights Reserved), a dynamic activity-centered calendar that introduces children and their parents to the symbols and story of Hanukkah;
  • A Hanukkah story time; and
  • A free raffle with prizes for the entire family.

 “This innovative program is all about bringing the holiday of Hanukkah to where people are during the holiday shopping season,” says Rabbi Kerry Olitzky, executive director of JOI. “We are making Hanukkah more accessible to people who may want to learn more about the holiday, but aren’t comfortable entering a synagogue or Jewish Community Center. Through this program, people can experience the joy of Hanukkah in a comfortable, public space with the entire family.”
