Of a Piece: Paintings by Deborah Addison Coburn

These paintings are essentially abstract, though they also carry in them a strong sense of the landscape. Starting with drawings, which allow the artist to capture gesture and spontaneous energy, she then cuts and reassembles the images into abstract collages that become the jumping off point for the paintings. A grid-like composition is combined with rhythm and strong movement to create these subtle and complex works.
