Circle Sunday, May 25 on your calendar.

Wolf Trap will kick off its summer concert season with its 2014 Summer Blast Off! featuring “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band on Sunday, May 25 at 8 p.m.

In keeping with Wolf Trap’s annual tradition, the ensemble will perform a varied program of traditional and patriotic concert band favorites, including Sousa’s “Hail to the Spirit of Liberty” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” and Gershwin’s Variations on “I Got Rhythm.” The performance will be followed by a fireworks display sponsored by USAA.

Attendance for the performance is free, but availability is limited, due to capacity restrictions. Gates will open at 6:30 pm and will close when the park reaches maximum capacity. A fireworks viewing area will open at approximately 9:30 p.m., following the United States Marine Band’s performance, with the display set to start at 9:45 p.m.

Founded in 1798 by an act of Congress, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band is the chief band of the United States Marine Corps. The band takes multiple forms to perform a wide variety of musical genres, from full concert band to classical, symphonic, jazz, and more for an array of White House, military, international, and ceremonial events. In addition to its service to the Executive Office of the Presidency, the United States Marine Band holds a number of popular concerts throughout the Washington metropolitan region and annually travels to several states through the nation. More information about “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band can be found at  www.marineband.marines.mil.
