Introducing the McLean Photo Club & the Nature Visions Photo Expo

The McLean Photo Club's next meeting will be a friendly critique session, for any type of photograph, with no limitations on subject matter or photographic technique or equipment.

Are you looking to begin or continue learning digital photography?  The McLean Photo Club is a small monthly gathering of photographers who enjoy sharing their work and learning together.

Five or so years ago I joined the club. I was looking for feedback on how to improve my photos.  Since then, I've learned enough to keep getting better, with equal parts luck and effort also important.  I've made some good friends whose work I admire.  Some of the best of our recent nature photos was just published in a gallery here on McLean Patch.

In particular, I have enjoyed the opportunity to participate in an annual nature photography competition that is organized by McLean and five other clubs.  The Nature Visions Photo Expo takes place November 9, 10 & 11 at the Hylton Center for the Performing Arts in Manassas.  The pictures in today's McLean Patch gallery are by McLean photographers who entered those photos and earned a place in the exhibit at the Nature Visions Expo last year.  About three hundred of the one thousand photos entered were selected for the Expo's exhibit.

The McLean Photo Club is in its fifth decade -- and we welcome new members.  MPC's October meeting will be a friendly critique session, for any type of photograph, with no limitations on subject matter or photographic technique or equipment.  No prizes, no names (if you want), just a chance to learn by being part of a group discussion about the merits and demerits of each image.  Join us and see what it's about.

We meet Wednesday October 10 at 7:30 pm in the McLean Community Center.  If you would like an image critiqued at the meeting, email it to me at williamgcorbett@verizon.net.  We will be kind, rest assured.  You may just find out that your work is as good as you hoped.

This is the first in what I hope will be a good number of posts for the McLean Patch on digital photography and the McLean Photo Club.  Thank you to editor Lauren Sausser for the invitation.
