A Wegmans in Tysons? Maybe...

The high-end grocery store Wegmans could have a McLean, VA address in a new development near the Metro silver line station.

Brace yourselves, everybody – Wegmans could be coming to Tysons.

That would put the high-end, much-coveted grocery store fewer than 5 miles from Falls Church. Right now, the closest Wegmans is more than 12 miles away in Fairfax County.

The Washington Post reports that the Rochester-based grocery chain is in negotiations to put a location in the Scotts Run Station South development on Colshire Drive, right off of Rt. 123.

The store would be walking distance from the Silver Line’s McLean Metro station, which is still under construction and will near the end of 2013.

Wegmans is reportedly considering an 80,000-square-foot location, according to the Post. That’s smaller than the typical 100,000-square-foot stores that have been constructed, with ample surface parking.

Wegmans already has such locations in Fairfax, Sterling and Woodbridge.

A new store is also under construction in Kingstowne, near Alexandria. The 140,000-square-foot Kingstowne location is set to be open in 2014.

The Scotts Run Station South development, from CityLine Partners, will bring 6.6 million square feet of mixed-use space across 17 buildings to the area.

Scotts Run South is almost twice the size of Arbor Row, CityLine Partners’ other major Tysons development approved by the Board in November 2012.

Scotts Run South will be more than 30 acres and include office, residential, retail and hotel space, replacing the majority of the existing West*Gate Office Park.

The Post reports that stakeholders declined comment.
