McLean BizBuzz: Capital One Announces New Data Center in Virginia, McLean Companies Among Region's Largest

Capital One’s New Data Center

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell announced this week that McLean-based has plans to open its new data center in Chesterfield County, Va.  , the state’s ninth-largest private sector employer, and the nation’s sixth-largest bank based on deposits, will invest more than $150 million into its new technology center.

 Virginia competed with Texas for this project, which will result in 50 new jobs in Chesterfield County. 

“This project is another great example of how the IT industry helps fuel Virginia’s economic engine,” said Jim Duffey, Virginia Secretary of Technology, in a press release issued by the governor’s office.

Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors Chairman Daniel Gecker was quoted in the governor’s press release as saying, “Capital One is a national giant in both banking and technology.  The location of their state-of-the-art data center in Chesterfield County will result in a great partnership for years to come.”

McLean Companies Among Largest in Metro Area.

Sixteen companies headquartered in McLean made the Washington Business Journal list of the largest public companies in the Washington metropolitan region.  The list was based on net income from 2011.

Booz Allen Appointment

, headquartered in McLean, announced recently that it has appointed Joan Lordi Amble to its Board of Directors. The appointment, effective immediately, will bring the board to a total of 10 directors. 

 Amble, according to a press release issued by , brings strong financial and accounting experience to Booz Allen Hamilton.  She will serve on Booz Allen Hamilton’s Audit Committee. 

She most recently worked for American Express Company as its  executive vice president.  Prior to her time with American Express, she served General Electric in a variety of positions, including chief  operating officer, and chief financial officer for GE Capital Markets. 

“Her expertise will benefit the firm’s already very strong financial operations, and her experience and guidance will be invaluable as we continue to build our business serving clients in the commercial finance market,” as Ralph Shrader, Booz Allen’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President, was quoted in a Booz Allen Hamilton press release.
