McLean BizBuzz: New USA TODAY Editor, MicroStrategy Teams Up with Award-winning Golfer, Appointments, Contact Awards.

USA TODAY

Named a new editor this week: David Callaway, former Editor in Chief of MarketWatch. Callaway will assume his new role in late July, according to a story posted on USA TODAY. Prior to his time with MarketWatch, which began in 2003, Callaway was a securities industry reporter for Bloomberg, and a before then, a columnist for the Boston Herald. 

“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the USA TODAY team, and to rejoin Larry (Kramer), as we begin a new era in digital journalism at one of the most well known news brands in the country,” Callaway was quoted saying in USA TODAY.  Kramer, president and publisher of USA Today, founded MarketWatch.

MicroStrategy

McLean-based MicroStrategy announced late last month that it will be teaming up with professional golfer, Patrick Cantlay.  Twenty year-old Cantlay, who transitioned from amateur to professional just weeks ago, was previously ranked the world’s number one amateur golfer.  He held that rank for a record 55 weeks, according to a press release issued by MicroStrategy. This multi-year partnership marks MicroStrategy’s first global brand ambassadorship.

Appointments

Freddie Mac announced this week that William H. McDavid has been named General Counsel, and will join the company on July 16.  McDavid left JPMorgan Chase & Co. in 2006, where he was co-General Counsel. 

“Having worked with Bill for over a dozen years, I have enormous respect for his combination of legal acumen and business experience,” wrote Donald Layton, Freddie Mac’s Chief Executive Officer, in a news release.  “Few people have Bill’s specific experience of being the general counsel of a large financial institution, and that is why he is perfectly suited to help navigate an increasingly challenging and changing environment,” he added. 

Contract Awards

SAIC was awarded a contract with a total value of $20 million by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  TSA is responsible for protecting the nation’s transportation system, according to a press release issued by PRNewswire. 

During the three-year contract, will provide equipment, training and maintenance for the Reduced-Size Explosive Detection Systems (RSEDS).  RSEDS will “quickly determine if checked luggage contains potential explosive materials, and alerts security officers if such threats are detected,” according to the press release.
