Mars sponsors new exhibition, Cardinal Bank contributes to local foundation, new apartment complex opens in McLean.

McLean-based Mars, Incorporated, announced last month that it will be the primary sponsor of a new Smithsonian exhibition, which is scheduled to open in 2015. The exhibition, with a working title of "American Enterprise," will feature 8,000 square feet of historical artifacts and displays to trace the country's economic history from its early agricultural beginnings to its current position.

Mars is contributing $5 million to the new exhibition, according a press release issued by the company.  It will be housed in the Mars Hall of American Business, following the completion of renovations to the National Museum of American History.

McLean-based announced this week that its Cardinal Bank Community Fund has awarded $1,000 to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Foundation, according to a Business Wire press release.  The Martin Luther King Cultural Foundation, based in Reston, grants awards to Fairfax County college-bound students. The foundation also contributes to the Northern Virginia Community College Pathway program, which reaches out to at-risk students in Northern Virginia.  

The Business Wire press release noted that the Cardinal Bank Community Fund has donated to more than 60 local organizations. Those organizations fall into one of four categories: healthcare and wellness, children and families, arts and humanities, and educational services. The Cardinal Bank Community Fund was established in 2008.

New Apartments in McLean

AvalonBay Communities announced the opening of its newest apartment complex in McLean, Avalon Park Crest. The 354-unit complex, located at 8250 Westpark Drive in Tysons Corner, is the third property developed and owned by AvalonBay in McLean, according to the company's website

The apartment community, now leasing, features studio and one- to two-bedroom apartments and lofts.  The complex also includes a fitness center, a clubhouse with Wi-Fi cafe, a billiards room and lounge, saline swimming pool, an "outdoor living room" with fire pit and grills, and underground parking, according to the company's website
