BizBuzz: Steve Case, Little League and More

Here's what's going on in the McLean business community this week.

NVTC Awards

The Northern Virginia Technology Council announced the winners of its annual Greater Washington Technology CFO Awards during a ceremony in the Tysons Corner Ritz-Carlton on June 4. The awards recognize chief financial officers and financial executives who have made outstanding contributions to the Washington-area’s technology community. 

At the awards ceremony, McLean neighbor Steve Case was presented with the Michael G. Devine Hall of Fame Award.  “Steve Case is one of America’s best-known and most accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropists, and a pioneer in making the Internet part of everyday life,” according to a press release issued by NVTC.  Case is the founder of Revolution, a multi-divisional organization that oversees his “rapidly expanding investments,” according to an article in the Sacramento Bee.  He is also the well-known co-founder of America Online, and chairman of the Case Foundation.

Little League Fundraiser

Karen Briscoe and Lizzy Conroy of McLean’s Huckaby Briscoe Conroy Realty Group are teaming up with other McLean businesses to sponsor a fundraiser in support of McLean Little League.  The fundraiser will be held Monday, June 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at in McLean.  , which this year celebrated its 56th anniversary, operates the league and its facilities exclusively with private funds according to a recent article in the McLean Connection.  Other cosponsors for the event include Richard Moroscak of Southern Trust Mortgage, Marcus Simon with , Moe Jebali with , and Frank Vorndran of MorganStanley SmithBarney.

Approximately 60 percent of money spent during the fundraiser will go toward McLean Little League, for diners who bring in literature about the event.

Booz Allen Hamilton Lends Keynote Speaker

Booz Allen Hamilton Chairman and CEO, Dr. Ralph Shrader, served as keynote speaker at yesterday’s Titan’s breakfast, sponsored by the Northern Virgiinia Technology Council.

Shrader, who has served as Booz Allen Hamilton’s leader since 1999, discussed his “perspective on the challenges and opportunities of leading through dramatic change, and the importance of focusing on client service, core mission, core values and culture,” according to the PR Newswire. 

The Titan breakfast was held at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.
