Toyota Recalls More Than 800,000 Vehicles

The problem could cause airbags to deploy.

Toyota has announced a voluntary safety recall of more than 800,000 vehicles because of a problem with the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The recall includes 2012 and 2013 Camrys, Camry Hybrids, Avalons, Avalon Hybrids and Venza vehicles.

Water from the air conditioning condenser unit housing in the cars could leak onto the airbag control module, causing a short circuit which would result in the illumination of the airbag warning light. In some cases the air bag(s) could become disabled or inadvertently deploy.

The recall states in some instances, the power steering assist function could also become inoperable if a communication line in the airbag control module is damaged.

To fix the problem, Toyota dealers will apply sealant and install a cover to the air conditioning condenser unit housing seam located above the airbag control module.
