New business launched by a local husband and wife team preserves personal and family history for military veterans and civilians providing Cinematic Film Documentaries, Audio Transcription and Digital/Hardback Photo Albums.

Herndon, VA January 2014 – DocULife.US.  Preserving personal histories is a lifetime goal for this local couple.  Dan and Nancy Fiehtner of Herndon, VA, 20170, launched their new business DocULife.US in early January 2014.  Dan Fiehtner; Producer/Director/Life Preserver of DocULife.US says “capturing the untold stories of past generations with a particular focus on military veterans is our goal with complete discretion”.

The couple eventually became interested in personal histories after Dan started creating digital photo books and videos of family events.  When a memorial was held for Nancy’s father, a WWII navigator, family and friends heard a more detailed story of his war experience than what was previously known. Seymour Seth Goodman was awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. His last sortie in a B-29 resulted in Seymour landing the aircraft by himself with no landing gear, a severely injured co-pilot and the rest of the crew mortally injured. After video recording the memorial event, Dan set about documenting the stories, integrating photos and music bringing her father’s story back to life.

The idea of DocULife.US started as a suggestion from Dan’s father David E. Fiehtner, a former Navy CRYPTOLOGIC TECH CTOCS/W3 who spent over 4 years researching his family’s genealogy from 1976-80 before ARPANET evolved in to the INTERNET.  Many road trips were made to conduct personal interviews and young Dan tagged along on a few.  Dave suggested military veterans, civilians and their families would be interested in such a living history.  From that seed, the life of DocULife.US was born.

Nancy Goodman Fiehtner has long been interested in her family’s genealogy trying to solve some family mysteries; such as what ever happened to her great-aunt who stayed behind in the early 1900s in what was then Austria-Hungary to take care of her sick husband when her mother and the rest of her siblings came to America?  Soon both Dan and Nancy’s interests melded to tell a person’s life story while still in the present or to bring up the past.

A Renaissance man and part-time musician, Dan’s first career was in IT and after 20 years his creative persona started taking over. Starting in 2009, Dan immersed himself in the film industry working on several feature length films, commercials and documentaries including HBO and Discovery productions fine-tuning his skills in video editing, sound engineering, and other roles involved in the film industry.

Nancy has the warmth and charisma that makes her a natural fit as the interviewer. She always enjoys a good story including mysteries, so asking questions to bring alive the characters in a life story is a great match.  Nancy has the ability to make people feel comfortable and her genuine curiosity ensures the interview brings out the best in people on film.

We understand that many veterans feel uncomfortable talking about their time in service to our country; on the other hand veterans or loved one’s families want to preserve the life story as a videography to pass on to future generations.

Throw a life preserver to your family.  Don’t wait until it’s too late.  Be a Lifesaver!
