'A' in USA TODAY Sign Blown Off Gannett Building

Letter dislodged Monday as wind speeds in Northern Virginia picked up from Hurricane Sandy.

One of the letters on the outside of the Gannett headquarters on the McLean side of Tysons Corner was blown off the building Monday afternoon as wind speeds from Hurricane Sandy pick up speed in the area.

The building is located at 7950 Jones Branch Dr. in McLean.

The company confirmed in an email to employees one of the "A's" in "USA TODAY" was blown off, according to USA Today entertainment reporter Andrea Mandell, who reported the information on Twitter.

Natalie DiBlasio, a breaking news reporter at USA TODAY, gave Patch permission to use the photo she posted on Twitter of the letter from inside the building.

Corporate communications also confirmed the incident in an email to Patch. A spokesman for the company said the building is open. No further property damage has been reported and no one was hurt.
