After the partying associated with Mardi Gras — including the parade and festivities in Clarendon Tuesday night — many Christians in McLean will be wearing ashes on their foreheads Wednesday for Ash Wednesday.
While normally associated with Catholics, many Christian churches acknowledge Ash Wednesday as the start of a 40-day period of prayer, rememberance and (for some) fasting.
The following churches in McLean and in nearby Arlington and Falls Church are offering Ashes for Catholics and Christians on Wednesday:
St. John, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean – Masses with ashes distributed at 6:30 a.m., 9 a.m., noon, 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
St. Luke’s, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean – Masses with ashes distributed at 6:45 a.m., 9 a.m., noon and 7 p.m.
St. James, 905 Park Avenue, Falls Church – Masses with ashes are at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., noon, 5:45 p.m. (in Spanish) and 7:30 p.m.
St. Ann, 5300 N. 10th St., Arlington – Masses with ashes at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
St. Agnes, 1910 N. Randolph St., Arlington – Masses with ashes at 6:30 a.m., 9 a.m. (school) and 7:30 p.m.
