  • Dave and Nita Anand write about why voting isn't a waste of your time.
  • "Think again - about people in far off countries who are unable to give their voting opinion because they live under a dictatorship or are crushed by a war or are fearful of terrorism or are steeped in backwardness. Find out what's happening in McLeanwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • Retired federal employee Lucy Capaldi writes about volunteering with Fairfax CASA Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
  • "After retiring, I was browsing through one of the local newspapers and saw an ad for CASA volunteers. I knew this was my opportunity, and I attended the CASA information session with my application already filled out and signed.  I had no doubt that this was what I wanted to do.  After listening to CASA staff and volunteers tell their stories about their involvement, I was filled with admiration and respect for them and the program.  I thought that if I could make a difference in at least one child's life, it would be well worth the effort."
