  • On July 12, 2012, the Fairfax County government and the Virginia Department of Transportation sued the EPA in federal court in Alexandria asking that the EPA be prevented from imposing a costly plan that the EPA hopes will increase the worm population in the Accotink Creek watershed. 
  • According to Patch blogger Dave Webster, "Fairfax County is already trying to reduce the amount of pollutants, including sediment, flowing into the Accotink Creek but that isn’t good enough for the EPA."
  • The EPA’s plan will cost Fairfax County taxpayers an estimated $110-$215M according to the complaint.

  • This blog, filed by the Fairfax County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), details some of the challenges facing the organization.
  • "We face a new barrier to serving these remaining children — staff capacity. State law requires that CASA programs maintain one professional staff supervisor for every 30 CASA volunteers on cases. With five supervisors, Fairfax CASA is currently staffed to manage 150 volunteers on cases. We do not have the funds to hire a sixth supervisor who can support more volunteers."
