Dominion Upgrades Infrastructure in McLean, Falls Church

The upgrades will help shorten the length and diminish the scope of local power outages.

Some Dominion customers in McLean and Falls Church may experience a short power outage or two over the next three to four months as the utility company upgrades infrastructure in the area to prevent power outages and shorten the duration of outages.

Homes affected by the upgrades include McLean residents on Great Falls Street between roughly Idylwood Road and Hancock Road. Homes in Falls Church include those located on Idylwood Road between Great Falls Street and Leesburg Pike and homes on Cherri Drive and a small section of Griffith Road.

Upgrades in the area will include strengthening the system to allow for more automation, which will let Dominion address outages remotely, rather than sending a crew to handle an issue. Additional circuits will be added to the grid, which will prevent a larger number of homes from being affected by potential outages. The work will also allow the system to handle more capacity. Dominion crews will trim trees in these sections of McLean and Falls Church, too.
