Fairfax County Reacts, Mobilizes Following Japanese Earthquake

Earlier Story: A Fairfax County-based International Urban Search and Rescue Team is making plans to travel to Japan in response to the earthquake and tsunami that rocked the country and claimed hundreds of lives on Friday.

According to Virginia Task Force One's website, "The team is comprised of emergency managers and planners, physicians and paramedics and includes specialists in the fields of structural engineering, heavy rigging, collapse rescue, logistics, hazardous materials, communications, canine and technical search."

Fairfax Fire and Rescue Capt. Willie Bailey said they are trying to get a team of 72 responders for the trip. The details are still being finalized.

According to AOL News, this was the biggest earthquake to hit Japan in almost 150 years. A Google application has been developed to help locate Japanese residents who may have been separated from their families by the disaster.
