Itching to make awesome weekend plans? Consult our list of best bets before you head out on the town.

It’s Friday. The weekend is so close you can almost taste it. Downside? You’ve got no idea what to do during your two days of freedom.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We've picked out some of the best events around Fairfax County for your done-work-outta-here time. Is it 5 p.m. on Friday yet?

1. George Mason University Trumpet Competition
Where/When: George Mason University, Harris Theater, Fairfax. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Why Go: Guest artists will be featured throughout the weekend event including The United States Air Force Band, The Commodores of the United States Navy Band, Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass, Ryan Kisor and Thomas Hooten. Visit the competition's website for more information about the event and the weekend schedule.
Pricing: Free and open to the public.

2. Enter the Haggis Performs at Jammin' Java.
Where/When: Jammin' Java, 227 Maple Ave E, Vienna. Saturday, 8 p.m.
Why Go: If this band's name doesn't have you the least bit intrigued, then maybe the event description will capture your attention: "The band has made waves in the musicality of the (Celtic Rock) genre, landing Billboard and iTunes World Music charting as well as major television appearances on shows like Live With Regis And Kelly, A&E Breakfast With the Arts and PBS' popular program Out of Ireland, with its multi-influence style of Celtic rock."
Pricing: Tickets are $20.

3. Mo Bella Designer Girl Event
Where/When: The Tabby Cat, 2946 Chain Bridge Rd., Oakton. Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Why Go: Consider this a one-stop shop to replenish your daughter's spring and summer wardrobe! The event will mark the Spring 2011 launch of Mo Bella. According to the listing, "You'll find that we combine the softest ribs of cotton with unique designer prints to bring you clothing that your children look great in and love to wear. Each design is hand crafted with care and made with a childs comfort in mind."
Pricing: Free to attend. Clothing prices vary.

4. Claude Moore Colonial Farm Spring Clean-up
Where/When: Claude Moore Colonial Farm, 6310 Georgetown Pike, McLean. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Get outside, do something good for your community and get a free hot dog lunch!

5. Happy Hour Kick-Off at Whole Foods
Where/When: Whole Foods Market, 7511 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church. Saturday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: The event listing says it all: "Whole Foods Market celebrates its first ever Tyson’s Taproom Happy Hour with a huge tasting of some of the most scrumptious craft beers and wine. Our beer buyer and guru of the hop Jeff will be in house as will your favorite wine specialist Rene. Come in and taste what we’re pouring at Tyson’s Taproom. This in-store tasting will be provided at no cost. Come in and enjoy the good beer, wine, music and company."
Pricing: Free to attend. Must 21 years and older to participate.
