McLean Crime: First Bear Sightings, Burglary, 4 Stolen Vehicles

Recent incidents in and around McLean, as reported by the Fairfax County Police Department.

The first bear sightings of the year all came within the McLean Police District on Monday including one in the 1300 block of Summerwood Ct. around 3 p.m.

Fairfax County Animal Control suggest you take the following precautions to keep bears and other wildlife away from your home:

  • Do not store trash on porches, decks or in vehicles.
  • If a bear is sighted in your neighborhood, remove birdfeeders.
  • Take garbage to the curb on the morning of pickup, rather than the night before.
  • Consider installing electric fencing around gardens, dumpsters and other potential wildlife sources. Electric fencing is an inexpensive and efficient proven deterrent against bears.

The following incidents were included in the weekly report from the Fairfax County Police Department’s McLean District, which includes McLean, Tysons Corner, parts of the greater Falls Church area and surrounding neighborhoods. (See a map of the district here.)
